Halloween: The Game Is Out Now — Inside the 1-vs-4 Michael Myers Multiplayer

Halloween: The Game

Gaming News · September 9, 2026

Michael Myers is stalking a multiplayer lobby now instead of just a movie screen. Halloween: The Game, from Friday the 13th: The Game developer IllFonic, launched September 8 and drops players straight into Haddonfield on Halloween night, 1978.

Release details

Halloween: The Game is out now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, built in Unreal Engine 5. It's developed by IllFonic and published by IllFonic Publishing alongside Gun Interactive, the same team behind the long-running asymmetric horror hit Friday the 13th: The Game -- so the studio has been here before.

How the multiplayer actually works

It's a 1-versus-4 asymmetrical match. One player takes control of Michael Myers, using stealth and a Shape Jump ability to move around the map and pick off targets. The other four play civilians, whose job is to warn residents, scavenge weapons and supplies, guide NPCs to safety, and get word to the police before the clock runs out. The twist that keeps every match tense: Michael cannot be permanently killed -- civilians can knock him down or detain him for a while, but he always gets back up.

Setting and content

The game is set in Haddonfield on Halloween night, 1978, matching the period of the original film, with period-authentic visuals and dialogue. There's also a single-player campaign told from Michael's point of view, mixing real events from the films with new original story content, and three multiplayer maps at launch: Haddonfield Heights, Haddonfield Town Center, and Orange Grove Estates.

Why the asymmetric format works

One-versus-many horror games have stuck around for a reason: the power imbalance is the whole appeal. Playing the killer is a completely different kind of tense than playing a civilian trying to survive with three strangers or friends -- and unlike a straight PvP shooter, a single good save or a clean escape can flip an entire match's momentum in the last seconds.

If you want that same tension without a purchase

That push-and-pull of an outnumbered side against a coordinated team is exactly the kind of tension RivalPit's own Real Battle leans into -- free, browser-based, and built for a real match against friends without needing a gaming PC or a store checkout.
