In interviews at the height of the frenzy, Nguyen described Flappy Bird as having become "an addictive product" that he felt uneasy about, and on February 10, 2014, he pulled it from both the App Store and Google Play entirely, saying it was "gone forever," even while at the peak of its earning power. Anyone who had already installed the game could keep playing it, but new downloads simply stopped being possible. That sudden, self-inflicted removal only fueled the legend further, and it triggered a massive wave of imitators and spiritual successors that recreated the same one-tap, gap-threading formula across countless platforms — a genre that's still being played and reinvented today, including in Flappy Flight.
