Color Clash is RivalPit's fast shedding card game: be the first to play every card in your hand, one matching card at a time, while action cards throw elbows on the way. A hand takes five minutes; the rules take two to learn. Here they are, complete.
The deck
Color Clash uses a 108-card deck in four suits — Ruby, Amber, Teal, and Violet. Each suit contains:
- One 0 and two each of 1–9 (19 number cards),
- Two Skip ⊘, two Reverse ⇄, and two Draw Two +2.
On top of the suits there are four Wild ✦ cards and four Wild Draw Four +4 cards, which belong to no suit.
Setup
- Every player is dealt 7 cards, kept hidden from opponents. (Online, the server deals — your opponent's cards are never sent to your device, only their count.)
- The top card of the deck is turned over to start the discard pile. It is always a number card — action and wild cards are shuffled back until a number appears.
- The player in seat one goes first; play proceeds around the table.
Your turn
Play one card onto the discard pile. It must match the top card by color (any Teal on any Teal) or by value (a Ruby 7 on a Teal 7, a Skip on a Skip). Wild cards can be played on anything.
No playable card? Draw one card from the pile. If the drawn card is playable you may play it immediately; if not, your turn ends (press Pass). You never draw more than one card per turn voluntarily — there's no digging for a match.
The action cards
- Skip ⊘ — the next player misses their turn.
- Reverse ⇄ — the direction of play flips. Two-player special rule: with only two seats, Reverse acts exactly like a Skip — your opponent misses a turn and you go again.
- Draw Two +2 — the next player draws two cards and misses their turn.
- Wild ✦ — play on anything; you choose the color that play continues in.
- Wild Draw Four +4 — the heavyweight: choose the color, and the next player draws four and misses their turn.
The "Last card!" call
Courtesy — and rules — demand you warn the table when you're nearly out:
- When you're about to go down to one card, press Last card! 🔔. On RivalPit the button appears once you hold two cards; press it before (or as) you play your second-to-last card.
- If an opponent reaches one card without calling, press Catch! 🚨 — they draw two penalty cards. The catch is only valid until they call; once "Last card!" is announced, the window closes.
Winning — and the reshuffle
Play your final card and the hand ends immediately — you win. If the draw pile ever runs dry mid-game, the discard pile (except its top card) is shuffled to form a fresh draw pile, so the game never stalls.
Two players or eight
Online matches on RivalPit are head-to-head duels — you versus a friend via challenge link or direct invite, with the server refereeing every move. Prefer a crowd? The vs-Computer mode seats 2 to 8 players (you plus up to seven bots), where Reverse gets its full meaning and Draw Two pressure travels around the table. Strategy shifts noticeably with more seats — our strategy guide covers both formats.
Quick reference
- Match by color or value; wilds always legal.
- Can't play? Draw one; play it if it fits, else pass.
- Skip/Reverse/Draw Two punish the next seat; in duels they all mean "go again".
- Call Last card at two cards; catch opponents who forget.
- First to zero cards wins.
