How to Play

Reach the door. Everything that looks solid might not be. Everything that looks safe might not be. Die as many times as it takes — respawn is instant and there's no penalty except your own dignity.

In Race a Friend, you both get the exact same level at the exact same moment. First one through the real door wins.

🪤 About Trap Run

Trap Run is a trick-filled trap platformer where nothing is quite what it looks like -- race a friend online or play solo across 8 devious levels, from "First Steps" through the appropriately named finale, "The Gauntlet."

Every trap in Trap Run is a variation on the same idea: the floor lies to you. Some tiles crumble the instant your weight lands on them, some are cracked as a fair warning before an unmarked one ambushes you a few steps later, some are pits painted to look exactly like solid ground, and some levels even flip your left/right controls for a few seconds after you cross an invisible trigger strip. Moving saw blades are the one honest hazard -- always visible, always telegraphed -- because Trap Run wants its cheap shots to come from the floor, not from hidden enemies.

How to Play

  1. Navigate each level's platforms carefully -- many things that look safe are actually traps in disguise, and a few "exits" are fake doors that go nowhere.
  2. Learn each level's tricks through trial and error; a level you've failed once is a level you'll beat next time, since the trap layout never changes.
  3. Mid-level checkpoints save your progress, so dying past one sends you back there instead of all the way to the start of the level.
  4. Play solo across all 8 levels, or challenge a friend to race the same course online -- whoever reaches the real goal first wins the race.
  5. Try to reach the end of each level without falling for its hidden traps -- your death count for the level is tracked as you go.

The fun is in the surprise -- once you know a level's trick, beating it becomes a satisfying puzzle rather than a guessing game.

When you spot a cracked tile, treat it as a warning rather than a hazard to avoid outright -- levels often use one cracked tile to teach a trick just before hitting you with an identical-looking but untelegraphed version of the same trap.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the trap layout ever change?

No -- every level's traps are in fixed positions every time, so once you've died to one you know exactly where it is on your next run.

Are the moving saw blades avoidable?

Yes -- unlike the hidden floor traps, saw blades patrol a visible, predictable path, so timing your run past them is a matter of pattern reading rather than luck.

What kinds of traps does Trap Run use?

A mix, including floor tiles that crumble underfoot, pits painted to look exactly like solid ground, fake exit doors, zones that reverse your controls for a few seconds, lever switches that trigger traps elsewhere in the level, and moving saw blades that patrol set paths.

Do I restart the whole level every time I die?

No. Most levels have one or more mid-level checkpoints, so dying after you've passed one sends you back there instead of all the way to the beginning.

How does racing a friend online work?

You and a friend load into the same level layout and race to the real exit at the same time -- since the traps are fixed and identical for both of you, the race comes down to who remembers the level better.
