Rival Tactics is a turn-based grid squad-tactics battler on RivalPit. Command a 3-unit squad -- Warrior, Archer, and Mage -- across a 9x6 battlefield scattered with a mirrored set of obstacles, and wipe out your rival's squad first.
Each class plays very differently. The Warrior is the tank: 40 HP, hits for 12 up close but can only reach adjacent tiles. The Archer trades HP for reach: 26 HP but a 3-tile attack range. The Mage is the glass cannon: only 22 HP and a short move of 2 tiles, but its attack splashes onto anyone standing next to its target.
Keep your units spread out against an enemy Mage -- clustering together lets a single splash attack hit two of your units at once.
Since Warriors act before Archers and Mages every round, use your Warrior to soak damage and block chokepoints early, then let your Archer and Mage finish off whatever's left standing in range.
Is Rival Tactics free to play?
Yes. Rival Tactics is completely free to play in your browser at rivalpit.com/rivaltactics/, no download, install, or account required.
How big is the battlefield?
Rival Tactics is played on a 9x6 grid with a mirrored, randomly placed set of obstacles -- a new layout every match.
Is Rival Tactics 1v1?
Yes, it's a 1v1 pass-and-play battle on one device, with each side controlling their own 3-unit squad.
What's the difference between the Warrior, Archer, and Mage?
The Warrior has the most HP (40) and the best melee damage, but only attacks adjacent tiles. The Archer has 26 HP and a 3-tile range for safer poking. The Mage has just 22 HP and a shorter 2-tile move, but its attack splashes onto units standing next to its target.
What order do units take their turns in?
Turn order is fixed: both Warriors act first, then both Archers, then both Mages, alternating which side goes first in each pair. Knowing this order ahead of time is a big part of planning your positioning.
