Chop wood by day, feed the fire, and fight off the monsters that come after dark.
Doodle Nightfall is RivalPit's hand-drawn survival arena, built around the same day/night survival loop that games like Don't Starve and Minecraft made popular -- but compressed into a quick browser session instead of a long-form save file. Daylight is for gathering: chop wood and collect resources while it's safe to move around freely.
Once the sun goes down, the game flips into a defense phase -- your campfire becomes your lifeline, and monsters start closing in from the dark. Keeping the fire fed matters as much as fighting: let it burn out and you lose your main light and defense at the worst possible moment. Every night hits harder than the last, so the real challenge isn't surviving one night, it's managing your stockpile well enough across several days to be ready for the next escalation.
Don't spend your last daylight minutes exploring for one more resource node -- get back to your fire early enough to stock it before dark actually hits, since fire management under monster pressure is much harder than fire management in the calm of daytime. Treat each surviving night as a budget problem: gather a little more than you think you'll need, because a rough night that drains your wood stock leaves the next day's prep even tighter.
Losing your fire during the night strips away your main defense right when monsters are most active, making that stretch of the night far more dangerous -- keeping it fed through the whole night is as important as fighting off what shows up.
It escalates -- each night brings tougher and more numerous monsters than the one before, so a strategy that worked on night one won't be enough by night four or five. You need to keep improving your stockpile and defenses to keep pace.
It's both, on a cycle -- daytime is almost entirely about gathering wood and resources, while night is almost entirely about combat and keeping the fire alive, so success depends on managing that day/night handoff well rather than being strong at just one half.
